  New Business

Business Link is the formal name of a number of independently operated centres throughout the UK. Sponsored by the DTI, they assist small and medium sized entities (SMEs) to achieve their potential. They are provided with funds by the government, but crucially are independently managed.

Our first contact with Business Link arose, when Ben Snee and myself attended a breakfast seminar that they ran on teamwork ideas, with the key note presentation from Will Carling. As the former Captain of the England Rugby team, Will was able to pass on the techniques that he used to generate outstanding performance from his team members. At the occasion, we took the opportunity to speak with Business Link advisers about their operation and how specifically they are helping SMEs. We took away some Business Link promotional material for further information. Overall, we were delighted with the impression that we had gained of the organisation and thought that we should be working more closely with them.

One project that Business Link manage is known as 'Going for Growth'. Many operations might say that growth is a goal for their business, but that they are unable to plan and put in place the procedures that will be necessary to make it happen. The solution may sometimes be to engage the services of a consultant, to help the company devise and work through its plans. However, the SMEs may find the consultants' costs prohibitive as this specialised work demands skilled individuals that command appropriate market rates. If the project is deemed appropriate and the consultant is accredited by Business Link, it is possible to obtain a subsidy from Business Link for up to 40% of the consultant's time. This can be a very helpful incentive and is only one of many useful products and services available from your local Business Link Centre. For more information, why not visit their site? Alternatively, why not give us a call? We can give you some further information and also put you in touch with a representative from Business Link. Remember, this is a tremendous opportunity to receive assistance to make change.
Do not let it pass you by.
